Canadian Music Creators Coalition

By brett

The Canadian record industry (or, the Canadian branches of the 4 multinational corporations) have employed the same tactics as their American counterparts in an effort to save their business models. The Canadian Record Industry Association (CRIA) has lobbied the Canadian government to "get tough" on copyright and has repeatedly attempted to sue fans in Canada.

Because of this position, many indie record labels have publicly announced that CRIA does not represent them, and artists are taking the same position and have formed the Canadian Music Creators Coalition - which actively opposes digital locks on music, suing of fans, and attempts to shut down file sharing networks. Their main spokesmen are The Bare Naked Ladies, one of Canada's most popular musical exports.
